My name is Melanie Baldwin. I graduated from Auburn University with my Master's Degree in May of 2024 becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner.

I was born and raised in Georgia, where I received my Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Armstrong State University, now named Georgia Southern University's Armstrong Campus. I began my nursing career there in Savannah, GA as a postpartum nurse caring for mothers and their newborns. My career as a nurse would take me all over and into many different specialties. I spent time in orthopedics, spine surgery, medical-surgical, COVID ICU, and home health. My years of service in nursing showed me the need for advanced nurse providers and led me to apply for graduate school.

2023-2024

Registered Nurse/Vaccine Coordinator

Answered the triage line and gave families medical guidance at home increasing our clinics productivity and allowing more in office appointment availability. I also maintained all FHP outpatient clinic vaccines and worked closely with the State of Alaska's immunization program to ensure clinics were up to date with usage and education.

Charge Nurse

Charge Nurse on a 30-bed medical-surgical floor. Assisted in the coordination of care for patients to include transfers to other departments, safe and efficient discharge, preparation for surgeries and recovery. Scheduling and assisting 6 nurses daily in the care of their patients. During this job, I also spent time in the ICU during the covid pandemic.

Coordinated care for patients and families in their homes. Provided wound care to a variety of different wounds to include diabetic, venous and arterial ulcers, surgical wounds, pressure injuries and cancer wounds. Educated patients on chronic care management and reconciled medications to ensure safe transition to home.

Assessed and provided care to 4-6 post surgical joint and spine patients. Precepted new nurses and student nurses. Floated to other med/surg areas such as Hem/Onc, GI and Renal care.

Assessed mothers and newborns while providing extensive patient education to ensure the safe, comfortable home transition for these families. Administered medications and vaccines to mothers and newborns. Administered critical and post-surgical care when necessary.
